Tour Schedule – Pella /Vergina
Set out on a magical journey through time visiting Pella, the glorious kingdom of ancient Macedonia, and Vergina, the ancient first capital of the Kingdom of Macedonia.
Depart early in the morning for the settlement of Pella, the birthplace of Alexander the Great, and visit the archaeological site and the museum. The excavations have brought to light the interesting findings of the ancient city, exhibited at the local museum.
Continue your trip towards the beautiful village of Vergina and the impressive Royal Tombs at the museum of Aigai. Among other outstanding findings lies the tomb of King Phillip II of Macedonians, father of Alexander the 3rd (Alexander the Great).
The first excavations were made in the 19th century but only in 1977 Manolis Andronikos unearthed the royal tombs in the Great Tumulus that were considered as one of the most important archaeological finds of the century. Since then, the excavation continues and has revealed a number of significant monuments. The findings from the royal tombs are exposed very interestingly in the Archaeological Museum.
The Archaeological Museum of Vergina is one of the best museums in Europe while the exhibits displayed pleasantly take most visitors by surprise.
